Zig Ziglar, known mostly for his motivational speaking and books, died yesterday at the age of 86. Zig Ziglar led the later half of his life focused on helping people find success in their jobs and lives. One of his most remembered qualities among people who had the chance to talk to him or hear him speak, was his ability to make everyone he met feel like they were his friend.
Zig Ziglar had a will that refused to be beaten down and a relentlessly positive attitude no matter what life handed him. He encouraged people to believe in themselves, to respect themselves, their organizations and their customers. He didn’t do these things simply to get a sale, he did them as a way of living. Zig Ziglar encouraged people to hope and dream and then helped them transform those dreams to realities. He spoke about the ideas of personal responsibility and working with, rather than against each other.
Many of the ideas Ziglar pushed are so close to the things we have learned about Ubuntu: helping others to help yourself, positivity, a friendly attitude and more. Good ideas are good no matter where they come from. People like Zig Ziglar show us with their lives what is possible when you turn those ideas into intentions and intentions into actions.
