Is part of your morning routine to keep hitting the snooze button until you sleep past the day’s first appointment?
If someone were to record the first ten minutes of your morning routine, would it look like an audition to play a zombie on "The Walking Dead"?
You may not realize it, but everytime you hit that snooze button you are missing out on life and another opportunity to pursue your goals. Pushing that ever-so-tempting button may give you a few extra minutes of shut-eye, but it delays the start to your day's activities and sets a negative tone for your morning.
Here are a few simple steps that Hal Elrod recommends in his book, “The Miracle Morning” that will help you to feel more alive when you hear that dreaded alarm clock and roll out of bed:
- Set your alarm clock far enough away from your bed so you have to get up to turn it off. This will lower the odds of you crawling back into your bed early in the morning.
- Splash water on your face immediately when waking up.
- Rehydrate your body by drinking as much water as fast as you can.
- Immediately get into your workout clothes.
What I also have found is that having my days planned out in advance gives me something to look forward to. I always feel more productive when waking up early; it gives me the sense that my day has purpose. Following these few simple suggestions has made me hit the “snooze button” on my life less frequently and has made me much more productive.
